background -

In 1997 the Harris Family purchased Lymm Water tower, a grade 2 listed building in Lymm, Cheshire. As the name suggests, the 130-year old tower had been used to store a water tank and was currently used to house telephone masts. The family's aim was to convert the derelict building into a 'minimalist family home of the future.'

the problem -

The minimalist interior design required white walls, floors and ceilings but as this was to be a family home, the chosen coating also needed to be durable and hard wearing.

the solution -

Liquid Plastics donated Steridex - a product from their hygiene coating range - to the project. Steridex is a waterborne acrylic, decorative coating, which could be easily spray applied to the entire surface of internal walls and ceilings. Not only does it provide an aesthetically pleasing matt finish, but it also contains anti-microbial properties that prevent the growth of micro-organisms.

the benefits -

Steridex is easy to clean and can tolerate harsh chemicals allowing the family to maintain a bright, pristine finish. Furthermore it is elastomeric and so can withstand structural movements without cracking or flaking, an important characteristic when used in old buildings that are susceptible to movement.
