Seamless Blend Between Old and New

Seamless Blend Between Old and New

2nd July 2009 – Liquid Plastics, pioneer of liquid applied roofing technology, offers a range of solutions to help architects and specifiers face the many challenges associated with selecting the appropriate products for refurbishment projects.

“Specifiers are frequently looking for refurb products that reproduce the appearance of existing materials, whilst also offering performance characteristics usually associated with more modern building materials,” comments Steve Cookson from Liquid Plastics’ Technical Customer Services Department. “For over 40 years our Decothane systems have been specified to mimic the appearance of extremely costly traditional materials such as lead or copper.”

Selecting a product that can match or exceed the performance of the existing materials is also a challenge. Not only does this help reap cost savings when it comes to long term maintenance plans, but it can also help developers meet increasingly stringent modern building regulations.

“We often hear the word ‘sustainability’ in the construction industry,” adds Steve, “And part of what makes a building sustainable is the frequency with which maintenance is required. It is this life cycle costing that should be a serious consideration for all specifiers and may mean the difference between selecting a superior product that provides a long term maintenance-free life, and a lesser product that will need work after 5 years.”

Liquid Plastics’ Decothane systems come with 10, 15, 20 or 25 year guarantees and at the end of that period the guarantee can be extended for an extra 10 years with the simple application of an additional top coat, thus providing a waterproof roof system that requires minimal maintenance at a cost effective price. In addition Decothane is also completely cold applied and can be safely installed whilst a building is in use, keeping disruption to an absolute minimum. Full built-up roof systems are also available that incorporate insulation and can be completed with inverted and green roof finishes.
